the weekend of paint.

i dub this past weekend as the 'painting weekend'. it started friday morning when chels showed up at my house with a car full of things to paint. we laid it all out and went to town. brooklyn was happy to play and dance nearby while we painted. we jammed out to the justin bieber station on pandora and sipped on our sonic drinks. with a couple quick errands in between coats of paint, a couple hours, and some darn cute hot pink striped tv trays later...we were done. well chels was. i wasn't quite. i finished my stuff on saturday morning.

james's cousin steven and my other SIL tori came over for the evening and we grilled up some turkey burgers. we even ate them outside. it got chilly fast so we moved the party indoors and impatiently waited for jeremy to get there so we could all go out for dessert. ice cream of course. while we waited, i attempted to put some piggy tails in brooklyn's hair. her very thin hair. but we were successful and i about died/cried of cuteness at the sight of her. she looked so grown up and not like my baby brooklyn at all. my gosh that girl's just growing right up. brooklyn loved hanging out with her auntie 'ch' all day, as always.

like i said, saturday morning, i finished my painting projects while james fertilized the lawn, and brooklyn took a nap. it was a late night on friday for that little one. we got some other yard stuff done and james even bleached the garage floor. we're so excited for summer and all the projects we have up our sleeves! it was a pretty productive saturday.

that evening we met up with friends at buffalo wild wings for dinner and lots of visiting. i finally got to meet baby camden and wanted to munch on those kissable chubby cheeks of his. and those lips. oh those lips. you have to see those in person. they are irresistible.

after dinner it was more cousin time. steven came up again, along with james' other cousin doug. we visited for awhile and then chelsea and i had our own girl time. like we needed after a whole day of painting together, but we just did. we always do. you can never have enough girl time.

sunday brouht st. patty's day and that meant we were all wearing green. i wasn't sure how to pull off green with brooklyn, but since dad gets her ready for church, it was up to him to figure it out. which he did, and honestly folks, he did it to the best of his ability. he didn't have much to work with. she even had green earrings in (which she lost one of during nursery later in the day). nonetheless, we were very festive at church today. and we were LUCKY too. brooklyn stayed the whole 2 hours in nursery!!! big deal. big deal.

our st. patty's sunday dinner was green french toast and green milk. very simple. it was the fastest, easiest, and also the yummiest in my mind, thing i could come up with. brooklyn loved it. she's a french toast fan just like her mama.

we rode with jeremy and chelsea to the slc to visit james' grandparents.it was a short, nice visit. steak included.

we made the trek home and just relaxed for the rest of sunday. it was avocado toast for supper and then lots of sitting around and 'brooklyn watching'. our favorite thing. we even got so lucky as to have kayla come stay with us. brooklyn waited anxiously for her to come so we could eat brownie sundays. she loves her auntie googs! sadly, auntie googs had to go back to utah state for classes so we didn't get to hang out with her very much. but we'll take a short visit any day.

this week we look forward to more family time, some yummy dinners, possibly more painting, and fun weekend at the end of it. sounds good to me. let's get this started monday!

p.s. my parents are enjoying a nice long cruise. that sounds about right to me right now.

a little paint.

when i'm feeling really productive (unlike monday) folks, i get stuff done. after folding laundry, hanging up a load of clothes, unloading and loading the dishwasher, and straightening up brooklyn's room, i decided to paint a couple of my walls (half walls). i've been looking at paint samples for awhile now and i finally decided on one to try. so i got to work.

even brooklyn got in on the action. she loved taping off her own wall.

between primer coats, we danced around and made silly faces. we also made a trip to ulta. very important detail there.

brooklyn played with her dolly while i put on the final primer coat.

when james got home, the three of us made a run to bountiful to run some quick errands. brooklyn was good until our drive home. she screamed, so we turned up the radio. she screamed some more. so fun.

back at home, james hurry and skyped his sister and his mom and this made brooklyn so happy. we did a whole google chat hang out thing and brooklyn even danced for them. so cute. she sang songs and said a few new words she's learned. all in attendance were impressed.

while my first coat of paint on the walls were drying, i decided to hurry and try a project i've been pondering over and thinking about for awhile now. homemade blue glass. i went with more of a turquoise and honestly, its still wet up stairs so i can't even tell you how it's turned out. more on that to follow.

during my little project, brooklyn did this...

she was very excited and anxious to pick them all up for me though. not really. but she did help pick them up. that girl. tornado i tell ya.

i got the last coat of paint on while james got brooklyn ready for bed. i can't wait to see it in the daylight.

we all hunkered down in the man cave to watch a 'bedtime movie', the lorax. so far so good. brooklyn isn't even acting tired though and it's past her bedtime. james and i are loving the movie. more than brooklyn. it's so colorful and fun.

anyway, that was our wednesday. thursday should be an adventure. our power will be out from 9 - 12. i have a few things planned for us to do, don't know if it's 3 hours worth, but i guess we'll find out. it's also a wash my hair+blow dry it+and curl it day. a shower at noon? sounds good to me.

Rocking Chair

Several months ago my mother-in-law found an old rocking chair that needed some fixing up.

I wish I had a before picture because the before and after is quite drastic.

(it kind of looked like this - kind of)

It started out as a brown chair with worn cushions. The cushions were a dark turquoise with a red print of some kind on them.

The chair definitely had potential.

I went with James' grandma to pick out fabric for the cushions about a week ago, James and I took the chair out and spray painted it a few times (James did this, I sat far away and held my shirt over my nose and mouth).

And WALLA!

I love it! It definitely adds to the baby room/office. Which, is still under construction. Hopefully it will be ready before 11 days is up!

Dr appointment today!

Productive

Saturday summed up into one word: productive!

My parents, sister, and Chels came to help us out with a few projects.

We painted a wall in the nursery/office

(before)

(after)

and

painted a dresser/changing table.

(before)

(after - it still needs it's hardware)

(Chels basically did this whole thing by herself, so that I would not breathe in the horrible fumes)

What a big help they were! We couldn't have done it without them.

They were rewarded with homemade bread and lemonade for a snack and pizza for lunch.

But we could never really repay them.

My dad also put together the 'little crib'.

This crib has been in my mom's family for generations. A great uncle, uncles and aunts, and even myself, have slept in this cute tiny little crib.

It will go next to my side of the bed for the next few months.
