carving pumpkins

carving pumpkins, carving pumpkins
it's time for halloween...

sunday was sooo warm! we had invited james' parents over for dinner and decided it would be a shame to eat inside. we had roast, potatoes & carrots (from the garden), corn, rolls, and pumpkin + brown sugar muffins for dessert. the mosquitoes also enjoyed that we ate outside. they were out in full force!

after dinner, we got to carving! the jeremy ruesch clan joined us and it was a fun fall evening spent together.

brooklyn + kendall loved digging the guts out of their pumpkins and dreaming up what they wanted carved into these pumpkins they chose with such care!

they both decided they wanted kitties. james quickly carved kendall's and she loved it, and my father in law carved brooklyn's and spent a ton of time on it! it turned out pretty awesome.

the kids mostly played while the adults did all the carving. it got chilly and dark quickly, but we adults enjoying getting to visit.

happy halloween eve!

carving pumpkins.

carving pumpkins... you either love it or you hate it. i love it because james is a good sport about it, we can do it outside so the mess stays minimal, and my girls love it! plus, who doesn't love having glowing jack-o-lanterns on their porch for halloween night?!

brooklyn got right to carving her pumpkin, slaughtering it really, but james helped her turn it into her vision and she was thrilled with it!

kendall shocked us all and actually loved digging the guts out of the pumpkin. she did that for about ten minutes. she then wanted to help dig out my pumpkin.

adalyn was good for most of it, but then when i was trying to carve my pumpkin, she insisted on being held, so i carved mine one handed. i'm sure that won't be the last time!

it was a beautiful night with just a little hint of chill in the air and i really wished this night wouldn't have ended. we danced, ran around the yard, and finished up our pumpkins all too quickly.

these kind of traditions with my little family warm my heart and literally leave me bursting with joy.

carving pumpkins.

man oh man this poor neglected blog! a whole month since i've posted and that means i have so much catching up to do. so, first things first, the rest of our halloween festivities.

carving pumpkins was quick and painless this year. we kind of rushed through it which made me sad, but brooklyn loved it, kendall wasn't too sure, and i think that's all ok.

kendall did not like pulling the guts out of her pumpkin

brooklyn used the spoon method. the whole time she kept saying hers was going to be the scariest jack-o-lantern ever. she was pumped about it.

james is always a good sport about these things and helped me with the girls' and mine. we didn't do anything fancy this year and they were about as plain as could be, but at least we did it right?

the girls loved watching them light up and wanted to stay out there all night. they kept oohing and aahing and it made it all worth it. hopefully next year we'll have something more creative up our sleeves.
