2 Month check-up

Our day started off as usual: breakfast, bath, poopy diaper, straighten up, breakfast dishes

Then... my bff since Kindergarten, sherrie, and her two darling (and very well behaved) boys came for a visit. It was so great to see her! We never see each other! She's such a good mom. What a great example she is to me. I love her to pieces!

After we said our goodbyes, for what will probably be a year again (no, let's not let that happen!), I sat down with Brooklyn for a very serious talk. I told her how much I love her and how I waited for a very long time for to be my baby. And that I never want her to feel any pain, but that sometimes there are things that we have to do to protect ourselves from worse things. "Mommy's gonna take you to the doctor today and you're going to get shots. But it won't hurt for very long and I need you to be brave ok?"

My mom came down to help me, thank goodness.

(6 days old - 1st dr. appt)

(2 month check up)

Brooklyn weighed in at 10 lbs. 9 oz. and she measured 22 1/2 inches long. So she's in the 50th percentile for her age in both.

She was being so happy and friendly, just talkin and smilin away. Dr. Mary Poppins was impressed with how strong and alert she is. We like Mary Poppins.

(look how intently Brooklyn is listening to Mary Poppins)

Then Brooklyn got a little ornery.

I comforted her the best I could, but my heart was breaking knowing what would happen in the next five minutes of her life. I wanted to break for the door and run away with her. No, I could do this. Lots of moms do this every day.

(she's always grabbing at my face)

The nurse came in, sweet girl, and got the band aids laid out and ready to go. She gave Brooklyn the oral medicine first, which she sucked down like a champ, and then came the shots.

I held her little face and kissed her mouth as the first shot went in. Brooklyn screamed. The other 2 shots were fast, the band aids were on, and I picked her up as fast as I could and held her close. She was heart broken, right along with Mommy and Grandma. I wanted to take the pain away. I wanted her to understand that I didn't give her the shots, but that they would keep her healthy and safe from horrible sicknesses.

My poor little baby.

I nursed her and we quietly left the doctor's office. With Brooklyn sound asleep in her car seat, Grandma and I self soothed with fruity lemonades and Mrs. Fields cookies.

She was a good baby for the most part after that. Daddy took care of her for awhile while I went to YW's and then I spent the rest of the evening with her. Tomorrow's a new day, and hopefully not a traumatic one.

*A great big thanks to my mom, Grandma Diane, for the pictures at the doctor's office, the strawberry lemonade, the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie, and the clothes she bought Brooklyn. Love you Mom.

1st Hike

we took Brooklyn on her first hike on Saturday evening. It was the perfect weather for a hike, not too hot with a little breeze. I was excited!

Brooklyn was patient with Daddy while he got the carrier ready.

She loved being snuggled so close to her dad. She slept the entire time. She was in heaven.

I had hiked Ensign Peak a few times before and never noticed any graffiti, but boy, there was a lot of it that night. Maybe I've only hiked it at night, or was too out of shape to notice before.

We got started up the trail determined to get to the top before it got too dark, but we made the mistake of stopping to get a picture...it turned into more picture taking and less hiking...

(with the flash)

(without)

Then, it got too dark.

So we hiked up a bit more and then headed back down. Brooklyn hadn't made a peep the entire time,

until we got to the bottom where she made a loud peep.

(1st diaper change in the car)

It really was such a fun night out, especially to be outside. Brooklyn loves to be outside. It's definitely nice for me so that we can enjoy lots of walks together until the weather turns cold. We ended the night meeting up with Whit and Chandler at Culver's for some custard. Again, if you've never been there, GO! It's one of our favorite dessert spots. Not good for my hips however.

So excited for conference this weekend!

(and I love Salt Lake too)

Not so excited for Brooklyn's 2 month check-up today. Pray for her...

and

for her mommy.

James' Bday Bash!

(warning = picture overload)

Ok, so we didn't really have a bash, but we did have more than one celebration. It started off on Friday night watching the BYU game, and thank heavens they won. I'm not a fan, but for my husband's happiness, it's nice when they win.

BYU Win = Happy Husband

Sunday evening we headed back to his parents' house for a bbq and cake & ice cream.

James loves sharing his birthday with his brother.

(the wives)

Tonight, for his real birthday, I took him to dinner. My parents came down to watch Brooklyn. They were more than happy to. I didn't tell him where we were going because I wanted there to be some suprise in his birthday. We went to Pitmaster BBQ House in Draper. I highly recommend this place! Wow!

We lucked out to go there on 'burnt ends' night. That is some tasty meat. The rest of the food is incredible too. I was partial of the cornbread. Mmm!

(are ya hungry yet?)

James got spoiled with gifts!

X Box games
watch
$$$
dress shirts
raquet balls

Not to mention, he GOT an X Box 360. He got a great deal on a lap top that included the X Box. He's a spoiled guy!

James isn't the only one celebrating a b-day...

Brooklyn turned 2 months old on her daddy's b-day...

(she really was happy)

She is growing up so fast. I can't believe how much she's grown even in the last 2 weeks! Love you sweetie!

It was fun to celebrate with James and I hope he knows how much I love and appreciate him!

Here's to many more birthdays and BBQ dinners to come!

Fall, fall, fall

I decorated for Fall the Friday before Labor Day. I couldn't help it. We had a busy weekend going on and I knew that I wouldn't have time during or even on that Monday, so I got a head start. I couldn't help it. Summer was basically over, football had started, so I felt justified. Plus, I knew that I'd be decorating for Halloween less than 30 days later. I didn't do much Fall decorating this year. Just a few touches. But I love the way it helped ring in this new season.

Today I had to choose between reading my very 'fallish' book

or

play and snuggle with this very 'fallish' girl.

I chose the girl.

We went on a nice long walk and took a nap. It was heaven. On a sad note, she outgrew newborn diapers today and started in 1's. Sad day for Mommy.

So we're ready for fall, minus our flannel sheets, still too warm for that. We've enjoyed dinners with great produce from the season and look forward to lots more!

Looking forward to the weekend. Or should I say, birthday weekend???

We will be celebrating James' birthday Friday night at his parents' house with a BBQ and BYU game (let's pray they play better than last week).

Saturday I have lots of baby showers to attend and lots to do with James and Brooklyn. Such a great time of year. My favorite!
